Building public-data apps for BC: court lists, council meetings and real estate

Several of my live builds turn public British Columbia data into searchable web apps: the BC Court List Archive, the Civic Meeting Hub, the Nanaimo Bylaw Tracker and BC Real Estate Market Pulse.

Why public data

Public records are often spread across many pages and formats, and hard to search. My public-data apps collect, clean, search and map that data so people can find what they need.

BC Court List Archive

The BC Court List Archive keeps searchable archives of BC daily court lists, so you can search archived criminal court appearance lists by name or court file number. The related BC Justice Data Hub, on GitHub, is a BC justice data collection with SQLite full-text search across cases, people, judgments and crime statistics.

Council meetings and bylaws

The Civic Meeting Hub gathers public meeting agendas and minutes into one portal. The Nanaimo Bylaw Tracker is an independent archive of publicly available City of Nanaimo bylaws, amendments, Council records and committee activity; its code is on GitHub.

BC Real Estate Market Pulse

BC Real Estate Market Pulse shows regional real estate market data, maps and charts across BC real estate boards, with AI-written summaries.

How they're built

The stack I work with for apps like these: HTML, CSS and JavaScript/TypeScript on the front end, Node.js, SQL/SQLite and Python behind them, and deployment on IIS, Cloudflare Workers/R2 and GitHub Actions.
