Browsing and local preferences
Nanaimo Bylaw Tracker does not require an account to browse its public bylaw and Council-record indexes. Hesh co. does not intentionally use advertising trackers, behavioural profiling tools, or tracking cookies on this site.
Search terms, selected filters, watchlists, and similar preferences may be stored locally in your browser so the site can remember them on that device. This locally stored information is not automatically sent to Hesh co. Clearing your browser data may remove it.
As with most websites, the web server or hosting environment may create ordinary technical logs containing information such as the requested page, date and time, browser type, referring page, and IP address. These logs may be used for security, troubleshooting, and reliable operation of the site. They are not used by Hesh co. to build advertising or behavioural profiles.
Google account sign-in and Firebase
Public bylaws and Council records do not require an account. Google sign-in is used only for private account features such as synchronized watchlists, preferences, and email subscription settings.
When you sign in, Google and Firebase process authentication information. Hesh co. receives the Firebase user identifier and basic Google profile information supplied for sign-in, such as your name, email address, and profile image. Hesh co. does not receive or store your Google password.
Private watchlists and preferences are stored in Google Cloud Firestore under your Firebase user identifier and are protected by user-specific access rules.
Email subscriptions
Signed-in users may enable private email-alert preferences in Firebase. The subscription document stores the selected frequency, categories, change types, activation time, and whether alerts are enabled. The recipient address is resolved from Firebase Authentication when the trusted sender runs; it is not duplicated in the subscription document.
After a cloud collection run detects eligible activity, alert messages are relayed through Brevo, an independent third-party transactional email provider. Brevo processes the recipient address and delivery metadata required to send and troubleshoot the message. Nanaimo Bylaw Tracker stores a one-way hash of the recipient address, delivered event identifiers, timestamps, and aggregate delivery counts to prevent duplicate messages. It does not publish this delivery state.
You can disable email alerts at any time from the Account page. Disabling alerts stops future delivery but does not control Brevo’s independent operational retention of prior delivery records.
Public records and eSCRIBE
This site indexes and downloads publicly available City of Nanaimo bylaw, meeting, agenda, minutes, and related document records. The records remain the responsibility of their original publishers. Hesh co. does not alter the official source documents and is not the authoritative source for their contents.
eSCRIBE is an independent third-party meeting-management service provider used by the City of Nanaimo to publish certain public meeting records. eSCRIBE is not owned or operated by Hesh co. or by the City of Nanaimo. Nanaimo Bylaw Tracker simply retrieves publicly accessible records made available through the City’s eSCRIBE service. Hesh co. has no affiliation with, endorsement from, or control over eSCRIBE.
Links to City of Nanaimo and eSCRIBE pages leave this site. Those services have their own privacy, analytics, cookie, security, and retention practices. Hesh co. does not control those practices.
If you are interested in eSCRIBE’s meeting-management services, please contact eSCRIBE directly or visit the official eSCRIBE website. Hesh co. does not provide, sell, support, or represent eSCRIBE products or services.
Use and disclosure
Hesh co. does not sell or rent personal information collected through Nanaimo Bylaw Tracker. Information may be accessed or disclosed only when reasonably necessary to operate and secure the site, investigate misuse, comply with legal obligations, or protect the rights and safety of the site and its users.
